Noel Halligan
Hairdresser and educator based in Bristol
I help people make sense of their hair.
Not just how it looks, but how it behaves, what’s realistic long term, and how to look after it once you leave the salon.
Most hair problems aren’t complicated. They’re just poorly explained.
My job is to slow things down, listen properly, and help you make clear decisions about your hair.
Everything starts with a conversation, not a commitment.
How we work together
We always start with a conversation.
Before anything is decided, I take time to understand your hair and what’s been going on with it.
That means looking at how your hair grows and moves, how it’s been treated in the past, and what’s been frustrating you.
We also talk about your lifestyle, the time you realistically have, and what you actually want to change.
Only then do we make a plan.
- Not a trend.
- Not a menu choice.
- A plan that makes sense for your hair and your life.
This way of working is designed to give results that grow out well, feel easy to manage, and last beyond the day you leave the salon.
Experience
I still work on the salon floor.
Not just behind a screen.
I’ve been hairdressing for over 20 years, working across the UK and Europe. I’ve trained as an educator and worked on shows and with a global brands, but my focus has always stayed the same: real clients and real results.
What matters most is what happens day to day.
I spend a lot of time listening to people. Different ages, different styles, different lives, but very similar frustrations come up again and again.
- Hair that falls flat.
- Length that never seems to grow.
- Colour that needs more work than expected.
- Styles that look good once, but not at home.
- Cuts that no longer feel like you.
When you hear the same problems often enough, you stop guessing. You start making better decisions.
That’s why I developed a signature haircut framework. Not as a strict method, but as a way to understand what your hair needs and make choices that grow out well, style easily, and fit real life.
There may be lots of people, but only a few underlying problems. My job is to spot them early and solve them properly.
Everything here is shaped in real appointments, every week, so decisions feel calm, considered, and realistic.
NOCO Hair
I’m one of the founders of NOCO Hair on Whiteladies Road in Bristol, which I co founded with my business partner, Corey Taylor in 2018.
NOCO was built to do hair differently. We wanted to create a calm, considered space where people feel properly listened to and leave with hair that makes sense for their life, not just the day of the appointment.
Our approach combines my focus on haircutting and problem solving with Corey’s expertise as a colour specialist. Together, we’ve spent the last seven years refining how we work, appointment by appointment.
NOCO hair and our team are built around a few simple principles:
- Thoughtful over rushed
- Clarity over confusion
- Long term results over quick fixes
It’s where every idea, explanation, and approach is tested daily in real appointments before it’s ever shared beyond the salon.
What makes our approach different?
I take time to understand your hair before making decisions. Most problems come from rushing or skipping the explanation stage. When people understand their hair, results last longer and feel easier to manage.
- Do you follow trends?
I pay attention to trends, but I don’t follow them blindly.
Everything has to suit you, your hair, and your lifestyle first.
We focus on natural looking hair that feels right for you and is easy to live with. If you want something bold or expressive, that’s always a conversation, but it’s not what we push by default.
Our role is to understand your needs, your problems, and your goals, then help guide you in the right direction.
- Is this approach good for long term hair goals?
Yes. The aim is hair that grows out well, stays in good condition, and doesn’t need constant fixing.
- Will you tell me if something isn’t right for my hair?
Yes. Sometimes the right answer is not yet, or not at all. Honest advice protects your hair in the long run.
- Do I need to know exactly what I want before I come in?
No. That’s part of my job. We work things out together through conversation and clear options.
- Where are you based?
My main base is NOCO Hair on Whiteladies Road in Bristol.
I also travel occasionally for hair and education projects.
When you’re ready, we can start with a conversation.
